Most important NEET biology chapters

Botany and Zoology together carry 360 of the 720 marks in NEET. Some chapters consistently bring more questions than others. Master these first, straight from NCERT.

High-weightage units

Unit Why it matters
Human Physiology Digestion, breathing, circulation, excretion, locomotion, neural and chemical control: many questions every year.
Genetics and Evolution Inheritance, molecular basis of inheritance and evolution. Concept-heavy and high scoring.
Ecology and Environment Organisms and populations, ecosystems and biodiversity. Mostly direct NCERT lines.
Plant Physiology Photosynthesis, respiration and plant growth: a steady source of questions.
Reproduction Sexual reproduction in flowering plants, human reproduction and reproductive health.
Cell Structure and Function Cell organelles, biomolecules and cell division. A base for many other chapters.
Biotechnology Principles, processes and applications. Short chapters, very scoring.

How to study them

  • Read NCERT line by line. A large share of Biology questions come almost directly from NCERT text, diagrams and tables.
  • Learn diagrams. Labelled figures in NCERT are often turned into questions.
  • Make one-page summaries of each chapter for quick revision.
  • Test chapter by chapter and track your accuracy. Aim for 90%+ in Biology.

Do not skip the “small” chapters

Chapters like Biology and Human Welfare or Biodiversity look small but are easy marks. With 180 compulsory questions, every chapter counts.
